Tigers 16U Black Win GOLD!

Our Waterloo Tigers 16u Black team completed their set of medals for the season after a long day at their last OVA tournament of the season and finally grabbing the Gold medal that had been eluding this group for the past couple of years.
Heavily favored going into the Bugarski Cup tournament held at Forest Heights on March 24th, the morning pool play saw the Tigers dismantle their two opponents from Cambridge (Scorpions Reign 16u and Scorpions Venom 15u) in quick 2 set matches and earning a bye straight to the Quarterfinals. Their next opponent was the LVC Fire Red 15u team in which our Tigers overwhelmed them in all aspects of the game and again winning in a quick 2 set match.

The semi-finals opponent, the Guelph Jr. Gryphons 15u Black team, proved to be their first competition for the day. The team fought through to win a tight 1st set and coming back to play their strong offensive and defensive systems to dominate the 2nd set and winning in 2 straight. On to the finals to be pitted against the Guelph Jr. Gryphons 16u Black team.

Battling long extensive breaks throughout the day where the team saw more time off the court than on it, for a total of 8 out of 10 hours to be exact, our Tigers had a slow start to the Finals and lost the first set to the Jr. Gryphons. The strong resolve that this team has proven all year long kicked in for the remainder of the match. With the Gold in sight, the Tigers went on to take over all facets of the game, from strong serving, to solid blocking and digging up any possible ball, the team began to prove why they were the favorites going into the tournament and winning the next two sets handily.

This performance will surely give a boost of confidence to this group going into both the 17u Provincials and their 16u Provincial in April.

Go Tigers Go!!!

Tigers 13U Girls Black Compete in Premier Division!

Tigers 13U Girls Black Team Tie for 7th at Premier!

The 13U Girls Black team had its first away tournament for the Bugarski cup in Oshawa this past weekend. Not knowing what to expect from the Premier teams, hanging out together at the hotel was a great way for the team to bond before hitting the courts.

The goal was set to win one game. Nerves were noticeably high in the first game against Scarborough Titans Menace. Our team got a feel for what they were looking at that day with a loss (12-25; 13-25). This helped as they played Durham Attack Black Panthers. They upped their game play and had a much closer match at (19-25; 17-25).

After a break and lunch, they had some confidence back. They won their first set (25-22) and then lost to Leaside Lightning in a tie breaker (15-25; 8-15). Feeling they should have played better and won the last match, they pulled ahead and won against EVP Eagles Black (25-18; 22-25; 15-9)! Going back up against Durham Attack Black Panthers to fight for 5th or 7th place, our team tied for 7th place at the Premier tournament! Proud of the girls and their fight to reach their goal!

Their hard work paid off as the results from the weekend place our Tigers 13U Girls Black team in the top 10 teams in Ontario! Can’t wait for Championships!
